Thank you for your interest in our intermediate class!

A strong foundation in bachata fundamentals allows you to focus on creative expression, musicality, and building meaningful dance connections with your partners. Before advancing to intermediate level, you should be comfortable executing these core techniques without detailed teacher instruction:

  • Basic Steps & Timing: Maintain proper posture, grounded steps, coordinated hip movement and chest movement when appropriate, and consistent musicality while executing the basic 3-step pattern with tap.

  • Dance Positions: Confidently transition between open position, frame, and close embrace while maintaining appropriate connection and body alignment.

  • Syncopations: Be able to syncopate on different timings while remaining grounded, balanced, and on time.

  • Turn Technique: Execute both basic (back-to-back) and outside turns with balance, proper spotting, and consistent timing.

  • Clear Connection: Demonstrate clear understanding of tension and relaxation principles to lead/follow effectively and communicate/respond to intent.

  • Body Isolations: Control independent movement of hips, chest, and waist while maintaining overall dance frame and balance. Execute a basic body roll with control isolating each part.

When it comes to syncopations (e.g. cha'cha's, syncopated flare/heel, triple step, syncopated basic, etc)
I can't do syncopations / I am not sure if I can do syncopations.
I can do syncopations but they still feel hard and I often loose timing

When doing partner work, check all that apply to you:
Check all that apply to your musicality understanding:
On a scale of 1-5, please rate your ability to do chest isolations while remaining grounded and balanced:
1 - Cannot do this movement at all
2 - Can attempt it but struggle to control the movement
3 - Can do it with concentration and effort
4 - Can do it consistently with some fluidity
5 - Can do it smoothly and confidently without thinking
On a scale of 1-5, please rate your ability to do hip isolations (meaning chest needs to be completely quiet for which the core must be engaged):
1 - Cannot do this movement at all
2 - Can attempt it but struggle to control the movement
3 - Can do it with concentration and effort
4 - Can do it consistently with some fluidity
5 - Can do it smoothly and confidently without thinking

4 - Can do it consistently with some fluidity
5 - Can do it smoothly and confidently without thinking
On a scale of 1-5, please rate your ability to do a body roll (keep in mind a body roll is dependent on your ability to execute chest, waist, and hip isolations so this score cannot be significantly higher than your individual isolations scores):
1 - Cannot do this movement at all
2 - Can attempt it but struggle to control the movement
3 - Can do it with concentration and effort
